U2

'm writing to tell you about an amazing video clip that U2 has just posted on iLike - it means a lot to me and I think it's a little bit of rock'n'roll history.

(Forgive me for the mass email -- we've never done this before. I've included my email address below if you want to contact me.)

Today, U2 used iLike to post a personal message from Bono, singing - and talking us through - "Wave of Sorrow". It's a track that U2 demoed during sessions for The Joshua Tree in 1987. Just recently Bono laid down vocals for the song and it will be released for the first time next week on the remastered release of The Joshua Tree. As Bono plays us the track, he also tells the powerful story of the song. I found it quite moving!

>>> Watch the video of Bono singing "Wave of Sorrow" and leave your feedback.

Since we started iLike a year ago, our vision has been to bring people together through music. As others follow U2's lead, this could transform how artists connect with fans. To get concert alerts & content from other artists, tell us which artists you like.

Sincerely,
Hadi Partovi, co-founder, iLike
hadip@ilike-inc.com

p.s. On a personal note, I was in the room when this video was filmed. My brother recorded it on his cameraphone. Now that's a memory to treasure!

Tuesday Combo: WTF?! & WDIK??

what up!
my name is Florence.
i'm a member of the african-american socialist movement.
i like trees, turkey bacon, and shiny teeth.

Sorry guys! I missed my cousin's visit to NYC...that was for him.
Anyways! I had the pleasure of laundry at me mums over the week-end, yeah, and got to watchin' The Salt N Pepa Show on VH1, yeah. OMG! What the bloody-hell did Pepa do to her face?!?! I used to IDOLIZED these women! They are my sHeros! Pepa's nose was what I liked most about her. She was holding it down for the brownies when they weren't in style. She is (was) BEAUTIFUL! Why did she get a nose job???

Moving right along, and kinda stickin' to the hip-hop/MTV/VH1 theme: Kevin Powell, of Real World Season 1 fame, is running for office! Yes, this accomplished chap is running for the United States Congress in the 10th Congressional District here in Brooklyn, New York! I'm excited!

To All You Bitches Takin 45min Showers

Also known as letting the water run (whether you are letting the tap run while you wash dishes, brush your teeth, run around the kitchen...waiting for COLD/ HOT water). why dont you take your funky ass and learn about the current state of our planet.
If the shoe fits, be warned. When my kids reach your age, there will be MUCH less water in the world - thanks to bitches like YOU!!!
Ever thought of getting wet, turning off the water, soaping up, and then rinsing off?
What about filling a cup of water to use to brush your teeth...?
I guess not, you are so ignorant, and thinking of you makes me so angry.
Imagine how MOST people live in the world...one day you too will know what is means to HAVE to conserve water?....right now, you are like most privileged ignorant WATER WASTERS..., contributing to the drying up of our future's most valuable resource without even knowing...

Kudos to ms. Jackson!

No, not Janet, Shar! Y'all remember Niecy? Moesha's homie from late that 90's show MOESHA??? Okay, okay...um...the girl Kevin Federline left to marry Britney??
Apparently, she's on an MYV show called Celebrity Rap Star and she spit an original track called Let It Blow. I will honestly say, if I had to chose between her and Brit, I'd have chosen her (just cause she got the bad end of the stick, ya know? Father of her kids marrying (and fathering) someone else) But after this lil' rhyme, Shar gets kudos from f12!

enjoy!

why people gotta hate?

i am first cuz that's the way it is.

Fiddy gotta go! He's disruptin' the whole flow and thangs! Plus, I can't watch f12's posteeeeezy wid all dat fiddy in the fo'ground.

The whole Ahmedinijad thang is k-RAZY. First of all, Bollinger invited his ass to Columbia and then gave him the most ridiculous introduction ever. That's like inviting somebody to your house for dinner and not giving them any food! Don't NONE-a-yall EVER do that to me. Cuz if I'm hungry, I'm eatin'. Ahmedinijad certainly did not focus on homosexuality during that speech, that's just what the American media latched on to. And really, "homosexuality" as a term and a "thing" does not necessarily exist in other places as it does here. The classification of sexuality is such a Western thing. So for him to say there are no homosexuals in his country may be true, seeing as he could also say there are no heterosexuals. Americans view Ahmedinijad with American persperctives on what's right and what's wrong, but the reality is that dude runs a democratic country! All the people getting slaughtered all over the world (including the gazillion we are killing right now) and we ain't got nothing better to do than bother this man in his democratic country? There is so much wrong with this situation.

And how does the West create this state of Israel that has other people living in it, and get mad cuz them dudes ain't trying to get with that? Palestinian's get stopped for walking down the street speaking Arabic in their own country (Israel) http://youtube.com/watch?v=LBtyRSoHCUI. I met this Palestinian girl who told me she was Israeli until her friend got mad and said "stop telling people that!" And the girl was like "well people are always like whoa! when I tell them I'm Palestinian." I was like damn! This girl is denying her complete identity because she's in American, land of the Arab haters.

contributors

first of all, how the f*ck did kamstar get to be the first listed for CONTRIBUTORS?!

f12: i guess we were picking up on the same vibe...we blogged about the same thing! the best thing i heard concerning Ahmadinejad came from an Iranian, i won't try to paraphrase: What has the world come to that, with innocent people dying in Iraq every day, the rights of the homosexuals have become the most important issue of the day?
and don't even try and play me out like i am not for the rights of all human beings...but anyway, please follow that link to get hooked into a whole listing of iranian bloggers, their thoughts, their links (well, i guess that would be if you are into being informed and thangs). but maybe you just like listening to fiddy (kams) and getting your swerve on...

lotte: okay, your boy can be down, you got my vote. me and su opened the blog and were waiting for his pic to load, when it finally did - su was like...uh...okay?
for the record: any brother in paris bustin' a pink sequence beret is down with my crew.

on a more serious note. been thinking about our return to the states. i am so not looking forward to the states stupid stupid ignorant race stuff. the sad reality is that we are all one race (the human race, duh). in sweeden you look like a super racist talking about "different races"... they have embraced (intellectually, anyway) the concept that we are all one. with the tensions between women and men, black and whites i don't think anyone has a clue how to heal.
believe, it is just as hectic here (that is to say brazil - pay attention). it is different, with blackness being a class, there does not exist (except in two or three isolated instances) affluent blacks or black univeristies. blacks are totally locked out economically from participating in the system. everyone want to be white, cuz to be black is to be poor (read: worthless) they got that good ole fashioned racism here: where every peice of you is inspected, your skin, your hair, your way to speak. and war here is that of poverty... not the pseudo penal shit we practice in the states. where we lock up all the brothers and then pretend racism doesn't exist anymore. turn around and criminalize being black, ask the question why blacks steal and stupid stuff like that. how easy is it to point the finger and say how messed up it is in other places in the world, when in the states we are offered a great opportunity: it is something really noteworthy about america. why is it my people still feel locked out? is it just that mental slavery? cuz, here (south america people, pay attention) the hustle is on. folks is sellin a bit of everything to survive, and when i come home - i do not see that same drive and self determination.
don't even try to blame hiphop, you won't understand unless you LISTEN to tupac. lookin good and being gangsta goes way back into blues and even to jazz era (think detroit red) and we got to be real with how much slavery has damaged the black family. brazil got the same fall out. men who can't be responsible and respect women (and vice versa) and children left to raise themselves...it is a mess. a painful, complicated, mess.

speakin of mess...somebody is rollin up their sleeves and gettin busy two shout outs to brad pitt (who we all know, like alot of white boys, dream of raisin some black babies..)
and yes i did shout out a white boy. can you deal with contradiction? aren't white people involved in healing racism? and men involved in healing sexism? let's really talk about it. and on that note, i sign off...

On Some real Sh*t...

Why are folks killin' MONKS??? Monks are coolbeans kinda people! How you kill someone who prays like all the time?? And lock'em up in monasteries...what is the world coming to? And can someone please explain to the the purpose of the UN? Isn't this matter something they should be assisting in?

According to CNN.com, all Internet access has been shut down in Yangon so it's like the stone age when it comes to getting info in or out. They even killed a Japanese reporter who was there doing his job!!!

There's a guy named Ko Htike - he's from Myanmar and has started a blog to keep the world clued up on the atrocities in the region.

*sigh*

Yesterday, Barack Obama was here in NYC. I missed the rally 'cause I was at my interview. I ain't gonna front, race relations here in America are like a pimple on the forehead of a pre-teen - it's about to pop and it will be ugly! Very very ugly. Part of me is excited we've got a black man and a woman running for office but ignorant sh*t like this makes me believe our country is not ready for change :( There's too much hate built on misinformation fostered by more hate and more misinformation...

I haven't heard Obama speak just yet. Finding out where he stands is on my 'to-do' list for the weekend... amongst other things. Anyway, if you would like to donate funds to his campaign, click here

whatchu got?

okay
okay
yall wanna be down...black techies...
modern girlz
post ya shits here. i wanna see what you got. where do we start? i know i have to explain the new version - why i figured we shouldn't water down, for the sake of anybody or anything. in light of hugo chvez, who claims to be black himself - a radical thing for 'latinos' - to claim their own african roots, i figured if anyone likes (or dislikes) our style, understands the passion of owning a mac and the passion of being black - won't have an issue if we come outright with our title..
crayola girls is cute, colored girls is hot - but i am what i am. and that is...
A BLACK GIRL THAT WILL MACK THE SHIT OUT THIS BEEEYAATCH!!!!!!!!!!
